Duet of Sonance Dev Log #3 - So many bugs...

Hey again everyone!

Log number three is here. But also, where do I even begin? There has been a lot of efforts in improving this project by adding new systems, UI, and some minimal artwork to enhance what’s already here. It feels like there’s a never ending list of things to do. In fact, I ended up working with Jira, a project management system just to keep track of all of the constant bugs, errors, and additions that need to be added to this game. Things break like every day so it’s been a lot of craziness. That being said, I’m actually really happy with all of the hard work that has been put into this and can see the improvements slowly paying off.

Needless to say, there have been an abundance of things that have been added which has made this game feel much more alive. In fact, in the end of this little blog, I have prepared a little video sample of the some of the inner workings of Duet of Sonance. Sometimes I post things on Insta, Bsky, etc. but I think you can see a bit of cultivation of the work that has been developed such as…

Facial Portraits during dialogue scenes:

Some basic 3D models being added such as houses (without textures as of now)

And of course, some music and actual instrument weapons hosting their respective sounds.

Like for example, piano instruments emit keyboard sounds, flutes emit flute sounds, etc. The goal of this game is to be a musical love letter in a way, so hopefully it’s made in a tasteful way and not thrown together.

However, I must admit that this past month has been a whirlwind with some setbacks in my life but I’m looking forward to what’s to come for the future. And also…so so many bugs. Like seriously, constant crashing, characters falling out of the world, dialogue getting stuck on cutscenes. There were a lot of issues popping up which has been in constant adjustment and fixing.

Alas, here’s the super alpha sample video below to see some of the features working together:

For this upcoming month I want to primarily focus on beefing up the world with better 3D models, textures, actually laying out streets (cause honestly why are we walking on blank textureless planes???), making the UI look more clean, and continuing building out the story a little more (but not much more).

There are so many things that I need to work on like having a system for side quests, buying items at various stores in the game, and a simple save system (because honestly starting all the way from the beginning of the game while testing can be such a headache and adds way too much time…)

Anyways, I hope this little log brings a little joy to the start of November along with a bit of excitement for what’s to come. If you like what you see so far, feel free to follow my journey on Bsky, Insta, etc.

I’m really not certain when I’ll post another log as I think focus is of upmost importance.

Anyways, thank you for reading through this~

Hard work hard work hard work.
